چکیده

Uncertainty analysis (UA) and Sensitivity analysis (SA) are prerequisites for model building. UA aims to quantify the overall uncertainty associated with the model response as a result of uncertainties in the model input. SA studies how the variation in the model output can be apportioned to different sources of variations. Both UA and SA have been successfully applied in many different fields. This paper describes the contribution that UA and SA can give in the field of GIS-based models. In the first part of the paper the fundamentals of UA and SA are introduced. The role UA and SA can play in the spatial modelling based on GIS is then addressed. In the last part, a general procedure to perform the two kinds of analysis on GIS-based models is proposed. An example of analysis of a simple hydrologic model is described. This research on GIS-based models, done at ISIS-JRC, provides effective tools for both the assessment of the quality of the model output and the optimisation of the resources to be allocated for the implementation of GIS applications. © 2000 Elsevier Science B.V. Developing a Model Based on Geospatial Information Systems (GIS) and Adaptive Neuro-Fuzzy Inference Systems (ANFIS) for Providing the Spatial Distribution Map of Landslide Risk. Case Study: Alborz Province

Landslide is one of these natural hazards which causes a great amount of financial and human damage annually allover the world. Accordingly, identification of areas with landslide threat for implementation of preventive measures in order to confront against the instability of hillsides for reduction of potential threats and related risks is very important. In this research a new method for clas...

Environmental Planning for Wind Power Plant Site Selection using a Fuzzy PROMETHEE-Based Outranking Method in Geographical Information System

Selection of suitable sites for wind power plants is one of the most important decision on wind resources development. Site selection for the establishment of large wind power plants requires spatial evaluation taking technical, economic, and environmental considerations into account. This study has applied a combination of PROMETHEE and Fuzzy AHP methods in a geographical information system en...

A Spatially Explicit Approach for Sensitivity and Uncertainty Analysis of GIS-Multicriteria Landslide Susceptibility Mapping

GIS multicriteria decision analysis (MCDA) methods are increasingly being used in landslide susceptibility mapping for the prediction of future hazards, decision making, as well as hazard mitigation plans. However, the uncertainties associated with MCDA techniques are inevitable and model outcomes are prone to multiple types of uncertainty. In this paper, the spatiality explicitly method is emp...

Propagation and Visualization of Uncertainty in NL-Based Spatial Analysis

Natural language (NL) as the most natural expression way of human is an ideal approach in spatial analysis. A growing attention of GIS scientists and AI scientists has been paid to the uncertainty of NL-based spatial queries and spatial analysis which include uncertainty of natural language expression and processing as well as the one of GIS model and spatial data source. The uncertainty of nat...

Assessing cellular automata model behaviour using a sensitivity analysis approach

Rapid advances in computer and geospatial technology have made it increasingly possible to design and develop urban models to efficiently simulate spatial growth patterns. An approach commonly used in geography and urban growth modelling is based on cellular automata theory and the GIS framework. However, the behaviour of cellular automaton (CA) models is affected by uncertainties arising from ...
